Nintendo shows no mercy to those who mess with its intellectual properties, and its recent offensive against the creators of the Switch emulator, Yuzu, proves it. The Japanese company keeps a close eye and knows that after taking down the original source, there would be thousands of attempts to keep the software in circulation, but it's already taking action against it.

Nintendo issues warning and GitHub removes over 8000 Yuzu repositories

According to a report from VGC, Nintendo sent a warning to the GitHub platform regarding violations of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) after detecting thousands of repositories containing clones of the Yuzu emulator. Initially, Nintendo flagged over 100 repositories containing the software and offering it to site visitors, but after GitHub's analysis, a total of 8535 repositories were discovered and immediately removed to avoid legal trouble with the Japanese company.

In February of this year, Nintendo sued the creators of Yuzu, accusing them of piracy, copyright law violations, and financial damages. While the company was aware of the activities of this emulation scene, the last straw was the million copies of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom running on the emulator before the original title's release.

The Japanese company immediately went after Yuzu and the responsible parties, reaching a monetary settlement. However, in this case, Nintendo took ownership of the software, website, and official channels, so they now have full knowledge of its functioning and the possible routes those who insist on keeping Yuzu alive might take.

The end of Yuzu has had an impact on the emulation scene as Citra, the popular Nintendo 3DS emulator, shut down operations after Tropic Haze, LLC and Nintendo reached an agreement. At the same time, other emulators similar to Yuzu have emerged, like Suyu, but they have fallen to Nintendo's offensive.
