Outer Wilds announced for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S

The Nintendo Switch version is still in development

Annapurna Interactive 2019's critically acclaimed indie title is on its way to current-gen consoles. Outer Wilds and its recent DLC, Echos of the Eye, are coming to PS5 and Xbox Series via a free update on September 15 this year, making the game run at 60 FPS.

In this title, we take on the role of the newest member of the Outer Wilds Ventures, a fledgling space program searching for answers in a strange and ever-changing solar system.

Annapurna spoke about the Nintendo Switch release at a showcase today and assured fans that the game is still in active development.

“I just wanted to reassure everyone that no, you didn’t collectively hallucinate our announcement of Outer Wilds for the Nintendo Switch,” Mobius said.

“It’s possible we were a bit overoptimistic on the time frame… at this point, it’s possible we just fundamentally misunderstand the Gregorian calendar, but it’s still happening, and we’re working hard to bring a great version of Outer Wilds to the Switch.”

In 2021, Outer Wilds released its DLC, Echoes of the Eyes, which added more hours to the base game where, this time, a strange satellite photo is detected. Soon, a new museum exhibit marks the trailhead for a final journey through the jungle.

The title first launched for PC (Epic Games Store) and Xbox One, and then it made its way to PS4 in October that same year and Steam in June 2020. If you haven't played it yet, now is the time to experience one of the best introductions to the indie game scene.
