SIE Santa Monica Studio is undoubtedly best known for its splendid work on the PlayStation-exclusive series God of War. Given the significance of the franchise, it's reasonable to assume that the studio will never cease working on it, and a new clue appears to confirm that they are already gearing up for a new project.
This speculation arises due to the discovery of a job vacancy on the official SIE Santa Monica Studio website, seeking a combat specialist with knowledge of the series.
You might recall that a few months ago, a job listing surfaced that also suggested Santa Monica Studio was working on a new God of War, but it's not the same one. This is because the previous listing was also for a senior combat designer but focused on companions, a mechanic that debuted in God of War Ragnarök.
In this new vacancy, they are seeking a combat designer to be part of the "development of an unannounced game."
Is a New God of War Game on the Horizon?
According to the details, the applicant is expected to collaborate with other team members in combat, animation, level design, character art, encounters, and more, even communicating with the director to see designs through to implementation.
What's interesting is that in the requirements, the studio specifically asks for "knowledge of God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarök" and the ability to discuss their "combat systems, mechanics, and enemies," just like the job listing from months ago.
Given the above, the clues suggest that SIE Santa Monica Studio is preparing a new installment of God of War. This is intriguing because the studio initially planned to make the Norse subseries a trilogy but eventually decided to conclude it in 2 games. So, if they release a new installment, it would continue with elements from these 2 titles but with a different setting.
