Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox, believes that the most prominent productions in the industry should be available on as many platforms as possible. He expressed this sentiment in a recent interview where he referred to games like God of War, Marvel's Spider-Man, and Starfield.
The executive likes the idea of AAA titles transcending the boundaries of consoles and computers to make their way onto mobile devices. From his perspective, this is the only way to truly reach a massive audience eager for these types of experiences.
Phil Spencer Wants to See the Best Games on Mobile
In a conversation with Eurogamer, Spencer discussed the importance of the mobile market for Microsoft's future. He believes that it will be a significant growth area for Xbox and that the potential of mobile devices should not be a barrier to enjoying some of the industry's AAA titles.
From his viewpoint, the number of players on consoles and computers hasn't grown exponentially like it has on mobile devices. Therefore, important titles should be available on a variety of devices, including mobile phones, of course.
"The console is relatively flat in terms of the number of players, the PC is relatively flat in terms of the number of players. I think we miss out if incredible narrative-driven games like God of War or Starfield or Spider-Man or whatever it is aren't available in some places," explained Spencer.
The Xbox head mentioned that the alternative to bringing these games to mobile is through cloud gaming. He acknowledged that the best experience will still be on consoles and PCs, but in his view, the availability of these titles should not be a concern for players.
Ultimately, Spencer believes that the gaming community should be able to choose where and how they enjoy their favorite titles. However, for this to be possible, more consumption options need to exist, and cloud gaming will be essential in making this a reality.
