March is a very special month for Nintendo and its fans, as Mario Day is celebrated. In case you don't remember, this celebration is held annually every March 10. The date is still a few days away, but Nintendo is already celebrating big time and prepared a cool giveaway for Switch users.
For a limited time, the company is giving away a trial of Nintendo Switch Online. Players in certain countries will be able to get 14 free days to get to know the service and enjoy all its benefits. Here's how to get them.
How to get 14 days of Nintendo Switch Online for free?
As part of the celebrations for Mario Day, Nintendo is giving away a 14-day free trial of the basic Switch Online service. Thanks to this, players will be able to enjoy online games and get to know some of the classic NES, Super NES and Game Boy catalog.
The offer is already available and will end next March 17. It is important to note that the free gift is only available in the following selected countries: Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Argentina, United States and Canada.
To get the free trial you need to visit the promotion site and log in with your Nintendo account that you use on Switch or create one in case you don't have one. Afterwards, you will have to choose the "Redeem" option.
This way, you will receive a download code that will give you 14 days of the service. Once you have it, go to the eShop on your console and select the "Redeem code" option and enter the code. That's it! You now have access to the basic benefits of Switch Online.
Please note that the code must be exchanged before March 20 and that this promotion does not give you access to the Expansion Pack, which additionally offers Nintendo 64, Game Boy Advance and various DLC for popular games.
Why is Mario Day celebrated in March?
March 10 was chosen by Nintendo as Mario Day for a simple reason. The said date can be read as Mar10, which forms Mario's name in alphanumeric characters. Every year, the company holds various activities and sometimes even makes announcements related to its popular character.
Nintendo is expected to surprise with some announcements this weekend or early next week. It is said that it will reveal information about several games in the franchise that are already on the way.
