The Last of Us made a successful leap to the small screen with its popular live-action adaptation starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey. Everything indicates that production for Season 2 is going smoothly, but a recent rumor has concerned fans of one of the most popular characters.
Insider Daniel Ritchman, better known in the entertainment industry as DanielRPK, reported that, supposedly, Pedro Pascal has finished filming his part in the new episodes and claimed that filming for the rest of the cast will conclude by August this year.
Without delving into spoiler territory, this situation would be in total harmony with the series of events depicted in the controversial PlayStation and Naughty Dog video game.
However, many fans raised eyebrows because filming for the new episodes began in early February, leading them to believe that less than 2 months is too short a time for the Chilean actor to finish all his scenes. Amidst speculation, an HBO spokesperson addressed the recent rumors.
Pedro Pascal has not yet finished his involvement in The Last of Us Season 2
In a statement to IGN, HBO stated that Pedro Pascal is still filming for Season 2 of The Last of Us and noted that all rumors suggesting otherwise "are not accurate." Thus, it seems that Joel's actor is still actively involved in the development of the new episodes of the live-action series.
The spokesperson's statements should reassure Pedro Pascal's fans, although they do not indicate that the story will undergo substantial changes. Before proceeding, we warn that we will share significant spoilers from The Last of Us Part II.
In the sequel, Joel Miller loses his life during the initial stages of the campaign at the hands of Abby Anderson, the daughter of one of the doctors who died in the final sequence of the first video game. Because leaked photos from the set show the cabin where this event takes place, fans thought the actor had filmed the infamous scene.
However, we must remember that Joel still appears throughout the video game via flashbacks that delve into his relationship with Ellie. While it is expected that the new episodes will be faithful to the video games' story, producer and writer Craig Mazin suggested that narrative changes could be made.
The second season of the HBO series The Last of Us is expected to debut in 2025.
